Janet Catherine Dea is a critically acclaimed soprano who has appeared nationally and inter-nationally with opera companies, orchestras and in recital. She has performed with the Canadian Opera Company, Edmonton Opera, Manitoba Opera, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. Favourite roles include: Violetta (La Traviata), Mimi and Musetta (La Bohème), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and the title roles in Thaïs, Lucrezia Borgia and Lucia di Lammermoor. As one half of the harp-voice duo ArpaVox, Janet recently released the record-ing “Sleeps the Noon in the Deep Blue Sky”, a collection of folksongs from the British Isles. A lifelong vocal student of Lucile Villeneuve Evans, she completed her formal studies at Yale (BA), McGill (MMus) and The Mozarteum (Austria).
In addition to her performing career, Janet is a dedicated voice teacher, adjudicator and certified yoga instructor. She is married to Greg Finley, the love of her life, and the two of them are doing their best to spoil their beloved Chesapeake Bay retriever Annie.
Janet has been an active member of the Heliconian Club since 2003, participating in club events and volunteering on various committees. Passionate about the Heliconian Club’s mission to support women in the arts, she is thrilled to be part of such an important Canadian heritage institution. Janet has held a number of leadership roles both within the Music Section and on the Executive Committee and currently serves as Vice-President of the Club.
