March 2, 2013: Self-Publishing Workshop by Ann Elizabeth Carson and writer-in-residence Susan Viets

Come learn the latest about this fast changing area of publishing from two recently self-published authors. Ann Elizabeth Carson, a poet, writer and artist, will talk about her experience self-publishing through a traditional printer. Susan Viets, a former BBC journalist who recently published her memoir, “Picnic at the Iron Curtain“, will discuss print on demand (POD) books, e-books and book apps.

Special guests Mary Perdue who is a photographer and Margaret Lam who is a graphic designer will discuss their experience producing Centennial Portraits last year as an independent project at the Heliconian Club.

There will be refreshments, samples of books, and an opportunity for all participants to discuss topics such as:

  • self-publishing costs;
  • finding an editor;
  • options for cover design;
  • options for interior design;
  • distribution tips;
  • marketing tips; and
  • manuscript or print book conversion to an e-book.
